My Amp upgrades

Ok, really it’s my sons amp. His ESC burned up and instead of replacing it with the same parts I have decided to upgrade it. Spent 260.00 total. Any other recommendations? Here is what I went with:

My next question is are there any YouTube videos or other tutorials to help me out. I am an absolute newb and I have no idea how to do most of these.

What else would be good to upgrade?

You have very similar upgrades to mine. What I think you will need is aluminium spindles, as the shoulder screws will just keep coming out as you crash it.

I thought about the gyro, but probably better tires would already help. I want JConcept choppers but can't justify spending right now, it does not get a lot of run time.

I've never had a problem with the shoulder screws on my two ECX cars. I bought extras based on what I read here and have yet to lose one. Weird.

The gyro is a must on some terrains and completely superfluous on others, it depends. On the local BMX track it's fantastic though.

Tires: do they make the choppers in ST size? That would be great for when it has rained and the track is full of muddy spots.

WhT is the recommended gyro, and what does it do? Are upgraded drive shafts needed? How about the other big plastic gear ( not sure of the name)

Drive shafts I would upgrade when they break. Big plastic gear the spur gear as long as your pinion spur gear mesh is right you should not have to worry about it. Pics are of what the gyro does (without gyro with gyro)

I got a Spektrum DX5C + SRS6000 combo on my Amp, and the stock one from the 2WD brushless Ruckus. Both work nicely.
AVC steers the front wheels in the opposite direction of drifting and lowers and restarts the throttle nearly instantaneously to keep you going where you want to go.
If you have trouble going straight or taking fast corners where you drive your car, it's fantastic.
Video from Traxxas' version of it:

Driveshafts: when they break.
Spur gear: never had any problem. Mesh it rights and use threadlock on the pinion and slipper nut and it'll be fine for a looong time.

Has anyone tried the cheap trackstar gyro from hobbyking? For 20 bucks it may be a good upgrade for gravel monkies, if it works...

Oh and I believe there are choppers for a 2.2 wheel, would this work? Not sure how compatible in size they are with SCT bodies and suspension heights...

Hobbyking previous gyro was crap and so was the drift remote , I have one. It also does not control throttle, only steering.

No idea about the new one.

I think I’m gonna return the flysky and pick up the Traxxas TSM.

Unless it's significantly more expensive I'd get the Spektrum dx5c.
Waterproof Rx, large lcd display with scrollwheel menu, 6 (or 5, not sure) channels instead of 2 on the Traxxas 6509r...

Get a RX/TX with a gyro, like Traxxas TSM or Spektrum's AVC, bearings and driveshafts.

My LHS has the Traxxas 6507R (4 channel version I think) so I picked it up. it came with the receiver and Bluetooth module. Directions are crap though. Does anyone know where to find a good video that breaks down using the app to program the controller. The main thing I am looking for is dual rate for the throttle. I’d also like to know if the telemetry moduals will work on the amp. Seeing temps, voltage and speed would be great.

Today I had an issue with the right side pin that holds the rear wheel suspension arm to the body. (I think that’s what it’s called) my son hit the wall twice at the track and both times that pin came out. Is there a better way to secure this pin and or a replacement part that will prevent this? It’s a pain to put the pin back in and requires taking the rear bumper off.

Had this happen to my sons amp. We lost the pin. Cut up a 2.5mm allen key, just a bit longer that the stock pin and it hasn't come out since. Got the parts to fix but havent used them yet

Took me a while to realize not all Allen keys are hexagonal all over, some have a round body. I was soooo confused for a while.

What’s a good replacement part for this if any? Will a drop of crazy glue help? Did you use a round key or a hexagonal?

its Hex in shape. But its not the shape that counts its the length. I think the stock one is a little short, so it doesn't seat in the rear Suspension mount enough. So in a hard crash it tears out. With the longer one it cant do that.
