Just your thoughts. Goolrc 3500 KV 60 amp esc 5200 3S lipo. Should be pretty much the same as the traxxas 4x4 with brushless and 3 s lipo. Anybody out there running something similar to this ?

@Truggy09 I haven't used Goolrc myself, but I'm seeing more and more people both here and on ArrmaForum using them. So far the reviews have been pretty positive.

@WoodiE I bought two of them. A 3300 45 amp and a 3500 60 amp. The 3300 is suppose to be a 4 post 12T and the 3500 is suppose to be a 4 post 10T. Both esc's are suppose to be able to run 2 and 3s . Ill try to keep everyone updated.

Are both of your motors the smooth can type, or do they have the "fins" going around it? The smooth cans are true 540 motors, the ribbed ones have 380 stator's in a 540 can. The ribbed ones won't have the same torque as the smooth ones, even if they are both the same KV #.

The 3500 is a smooth can the 3300 is a ribbed can. Can you tell me a little bit more about the esc . Will the 45 amp really handle a 3s?

I haven't used any of these motors and don't run lipo's, so I can't really say, but from what I've read 3s can cause problems with the 60A esc. I wouldn't even buy a 45A esc for a 1/10th car myself, but have read of people using them without issues. I was looking at the 3500/60A combo for my Torment 2wd. Looking at the specs of many different brands esc's, I noticed a lot of them will say that they will run a certain sized motor on-road, but off-road the motor limit is even less. GoolRC doesn't have that info listed, but I'm sure it applies to all esc's.
The only way to really know is to try it out. If esc/motor are getting too hot, you may not be able to run 3s.
Keep us updated on how the systems work for you.

I finally got my 3900kv 60amp goolrc combo yesterday. It's a 540 motor. The red kit with the card. Got it in my circuit with stock gearing and larger tires (about 5/8" taller) ran 2 8.4v 5000mah batteries back to back, really beating on it, trying to see what would heat up. Motor was slightly warm, esc cold, and the batteries got hot. Haven't tried 3s yet, but I will soon. Will have to gear it down for 3s, almost too fast with the 8.4 nimh. I might have to buy 2s batteries, some say they can' handle 3s. Reading the specs closely, the motor can pull 69 amps continuously, while the esc can only hold 60 continuously, so maybe that's why they fry?

So your not running lipo?
Your feedback is a little confusing. I'm good, just trying to get the clarification for others.
Also, you can't base heat off touching, an actual meter works better.

Just my 2 cents......

Yes at the time of that post, I used a 8.4v venom nimh 5000mah battery. I've since used floureon 3s 35c 5500mah batteries with no issues. And an IR heat gun is best to use, I have a couple ( i use at work).

I am trying to get a pretty good brushless setup up in my torment 4x4 and don't know which one I want it is for racing on a track at a friends house and I run lipos batterys

Whatever you can afford.

Keep your KVs down if you do not have any metal parts such as drive shafts, tranny gears, aluminum hexes, etc.

You get what you pay for.

Tune your stock suspension before you upgrade.
Upgrade your wheels and tires.

There are more factors in it then just motors.
Change the gearing. High the number in pinion gear faster speeds, faster speeds, warmer temps.
Lower the teeth on gear, more acceleration.

Also, larger amp ESC now is better down the road. Anything larger then 80 amp, your good.
Also, you don't have to get same brand combos, make your own. Just make sure you get sensored ESC to match sensored motor. Sensorless to go with sensorless brushless motor.

Again, what you can afford now days is good.

I'd make sure to get a 4 pole motor. I know there are a bunch of low budget combos out there, but not all motors are the same quality. For a 1/10 4wd SCT, a 550/3656 sized motor should be looked at to get those tires churning.

This motor is good for the price I run on 2s however it says it is waterproof but it is not after a small fire which happened in the esc recently, this was due to water in the motor shorting.
