Recommendations on an ESC

So I think the ESC on my son's AMP MT has gone out again, this would be the second one now and I think I will just upgrade it. The truck will steer and go forward fine, but has lost it's reverse. Couldn't find anything in the manual about a race mode, and I tried adjusting the throttle trim, rebinding the ESC, and different combinations of turning it on/off with throttle in full forward/reverse, etc. Nothing seemed to work.

I gathered from the forum that the Spektrum 13003 receiver will work with the stock transmitter which I would like to keep. Not sure what ESC to use, seen a couple suggested, but couldn't find a model number to make sure they will all work together. Using the stock 20T Dynamite motor since I've got two and want to run through those for now before upgrading to a brushed system at some point in the future.

Any recommendations on a reliable, waterproof, ESC for a brushed system that won't break the bank and will work with the Spektrum receiver?

A followup question here.

If i use the Hobbywing ESC, will i need to change my radio aswell?

That depends on what receiver you use. Since the stock one is a combined unit, going to a Hobbywing will also require having a receiver since you'd basically be replacing one combined ESC/receiver with a separate item for each. From my understanding, the Spektrum 13003 will work with the factory radio.

Looks like I'm having trouble finding the Spektrum 13003 receiver. Only one I found was an eBay item for about $30 which was way too high. Any other ideas on a receiver that works with the stock radio and the hobbywing unit?

Screenshot_20180811-132443.pngI have this brushed esc. I got the one with the fan. Works better then the stock one. Simple switches to change battery type and reverse. Just type ocday brushed esc in eBay it'll come up. But the hobby wing one posted earlier is good too. As far as receivers go, it doesn't matter what esc you have. You might be better off getting a cheaper decent receiver and transmitter combo. Something like flysky gt3b, or goolrc tg3.

Good news, was able to randomly find a new eBay listing for the Spektrum receiver last night at about half the price of the previous one so I bought it. Guess these things have been discontinued so there aren't many floating around out there. Hopefully I can at least get through the two brushed motors I have and by then I'll upgrade everything to a brushless system. Thanks for all the help.

I got this ESC as well but I am having issues with it and can't seem to find any information. I put this in my ECX DB and it stutters when I launch with full throttle and there seems to be a delay when I brake and try to go to reverse more so then what it would do with the stock combo unit. Have you run into these issues?

No i didn't. I did however solder on a couple extra capacitors, i believe they were 470 ufs, on the battery wires on the esc, which might help with the studdering on take off. Could also be either a loose connection or a weak battery. If you can, try to run it with the body off and try to watch the light on the reciever, see if it goes out when this happens. Will be kinda hard to watch it while driving, maybe try it on the bench with wheels up, see if it acts up then and watch the receiver light.
