Maintaining and cleaning bearings and gears?

I want to maintain my bearings, but I don’t know what I need. I usually just wipe down my truck with water and a brush, but what should I do to maintain my gears and bearings, I’ve heard many bad things about wd40, which I use, but I will not if someone tells me something else to get. What kind of stuff should I buy to maintain my truck?

You can maintain your bearings with maintenance but should you want to replace them and run in a dirty environment replace metal sheilded bearings with rubber sealed ones. Rubber sealed bearings are also easier to clean and access the ball bearings,

WD-40 is a lubricant but more of a temporary one it evaporates leave a pool of WD-40 in a cap and see what happens, With enough of a spray it can leave a thin film on the surface you spray but not something you would want to use on a constantly rotating moving part.

"WD" in WD40 literally means "water displacer" and the product is best used to displace water and moisture from metal items that may corrode or rust. So after a wet run you can hit the bearings with a blast of WD40 to drive out the water and leave a film of protectant. As others have said, it is NOT really a lubricant. It's simply that the petroleum-based residue possesses some lubricating properties. After the WD40, apply a thin bearing oil. NOTE: The manufacturer of WD40 recommends against using that product on polycarbonates.

I like Tri-Flow as it's very thin and contains PTFE. It also does a pretty good job of displacing moisture.

Do you know of any specific cheap lube for the bearings?

Here is what I use;
Air to blow off first.......

Zep for cleaner anything.....spray on, scrub with toothbrush, wipe.

CowRC for after cleaning, spray everything!

Hob-E-Lube, medium oil HL663, I got it from Hobby town. It's used on trains wheels.
I take bearings out and one to two drops, roll them with a small screw driver, re assemble. Take end caps off of motor and line the same. Shaft side you can kinda at times drop in there without removal of rotor.

I use WD-40 at the track, in between races. Blow off with air, spray down with WD-40, blow with air.
