Has any one seen the Gen.2 temper? what are your guys's thoughts on it? also anyone thinking about getting it or using parts/the body from it?

O yeah i saw it got my first ecx temper as a starter truck for my 3 yr old and it has been amazing now my original thoughts where when he out grows it I'll dump some upgrades into it and have a mini for my self now that the gen2 hit the market that thing looks like a purpose built comp crawler

Bought mine Saturday as I liked the look of it. It seems everyone is trying crawling these days instead of going fast LOL. Wasn't real impressed with it in the house (hard wood floors, dusty concrete). Took it outside in the ice and snow and had 2 batteries worth of fun climbing all over stuff. IMO it needs a shock upgrade as the first mod. I'm considering the Hot Racing piggy back models.

Its interesting. I was just looking at some upgrades for my Gen 1 and now its got me thinking if I should be spending any more on the Gen 1 and maybe just get the gen 2 instead...

Probably not, but it made me wish lol

I started messing with mine. First the shocks were not even 1\2 full of oil. Filling them changed how it drove but I still think that it needs better shocks. I’m looking at more agressive tires and maybe weighted wheels. One annoying thing is the combo receiver/esc im collecting parts to fix that too. I hear a Hobbywing 1080 is the thing. We’ll see.

So I've been modding mine. First, the servo is incredibly weak. I replaced it with this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073M8QT1S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The metal servo horn is a nice addition. I rounded the front edge to give it better ability to climb without dragging. The back of the servo arm needs to be clearance to clear the steering.

Next upgrade was the battery. I'm not running a 2 S lipo. It give more run time as well as a bunch more torque for climbing. If you add this battery, you will need to replace the connector as factory it comes with a EC2 connector.

I did added bead locks to the tires. These wheels added 2.2 oz per wheel so it increased the weight of the truck which aides in its climbing. I will say they look really cool but are a enormous PIA to do properly.

Lastly, I looked into those shocks again. I discovered that 2 of them were hydro locked. I removed them from the truck, pumped them dry and re-filled them. This time I put lighter weight oil, 20 wt in them. Previously I put 35 wt on top of what ever was in the shocks. Articulation improved but I chalk it up to the shocks not being hydro locked.

That's it for now. I have a Hobbywing 1080 ESC sitting in the shop. It will be the next addition. I'm also considering Hot Racing's Piggy back shocks: https://hot-racing.com/?partnumber=TD80RV02;c=964

Nice. Thanks for updating with what you found. I have not had the same struggle with the servo, or anything else. I have been the front steering linkage to clear diff. Also removed steering knuckles inside bumps to get more steering.

I bent the steering linkage on day 1. It rubbed the pumpkin. I think it most likely will need to be bent more depending on how aggressive I use it. Currently my crawling is limited to the basement with weights and assorted things to climb over. After the servo swap I’ve considered moving the servo link to under the steering link. Mine doesn’t rub currently but it looks as if it could with an impact.

Nice! I feel this little guy is going to do really well with some nice upgrades. I am going to try an indoor comp hopefully in April. Try out the new upgrades.

Check out my other post. I uploaded an video of it crawling.

I’ll check it out. I’m thinking of either adding another one or building a Barrage kit to crawl. Currently fighting off the urge to buy a new set of shocks that are internally sprung. I think think there is “more” it could do. If not shocks, maybe a move to 2.2 wheels to gain 1/2 more clearance for climbing

I think the 2.2 tires are going to be a lot longer down the road. Who knows.
Shocks, I really don't know at this time.

I will surely post any upgrades I do do.

Just put metal bead locks and proline havocs on my new gen2. Little under powers and moto gets very hot. I’m new to this so I’m asking if this tire/wheel choice was a bad idea. Thanks.

My buddy had some of those aluminum bead locks, they were heavy as crap and he tore the truck up running them.
