AMP setup and battery question

This is a great forum and I appreciate the wealth of knowledge being provided to everyone. I have been learning so much. With COVID this has been a great avenue for social distancing.

I recently bought a ECX AMP MT for my 8 year old son and after the the ESC burned up I bought him a Dynamite WP 60A Brushed ESC (DYNS2210). I also replaced his 20T with a 12T titan Motor. Bear in mind he is 8 so he doesn’t need to go super fast but I think the 12T is great upgrade. My concern is the 1800 NiMH battery it came with lasts about 7 mins..... we have 4 of them but changing them that quickly takes the fun out of it. So I have been researching different batteries. I don’t think he should use a LiPo just yet, I don’t need the car to go any faster, otherwise it’s just going to get destroyed. Plus we are still running the plastic gears the AMP came with and so far so good. I did have to tighten the slipper clutch a little bit. I hope that’s fine and doesn’t bite me in the end.
So to stay with the brushed motor is the 8.4V 5000 mAh the largest battery I can use? Or should I be looking for something else?
Thank you and stay safe

LiPo 2S batteries last me half an hour in the same truck. You’ll need a voltage alarm and a lipo balance charger. I only use 1 battery for it because half an hour is plenty for my 8 and 10 year old kids. 2S LiPo is a little faster and doesn’t drop off as you run the battery down like NiMH.

Check my recent posts and I just linked batteries, charger and voltage alarm options on Amazon.

Hi can I run LiPo with a brushed motor? I was under the impression that was only for brushless?

you can run lipo with brushed motor but make sure the ESC can handle it without frying it up, also make sure your motor doesn't get too hot

i ran the stock crush with 2s 20c lipo, it destroyed the gears and motor were pretty warm even just a couple run ?‍♂️

I have been running a stock Amp MT with a 5,000 mAh 2S 50C LiPo for a month with no issues. Almost every day. 50C or 100C won’t matter unless the motor and ESc can draw that much.

Just zip tie a voltage alarm to the battery hold down and monitor your engine temps. With it being summer and the ambient temps high you need to be careful no matter what battery you use. Be careful with high drag terrain like grass.
