What brand driveshafts are you using?

Associated spur gear found on Amazon, and their slipper pads. No modifications needed.

Would you buy cheap and upgrade or buy expensive and not worry?

I chose the "depends on my budget" option. I love building and modifying my cars, but it also depends on my budget and if it is cost effective for my initial upgrade. I bought my Ruckus as the brushed version because of my budget at the time, and had a cheap brushless setup ready to swap into...

    Finally Broke Something

Stripped out the idler gear in the stock tranny running a 5200kv with 13/54 gearing on 2s while filming wheelies for an IG callout. Repaired it with the ECX metal gears and took it out during my lunch break for a little bashing run. Need to plan a day to get to the closest BMX track for some...

What brand driveshafts are you using?

    Personally I couldn't tell you since I haven't broken my stock axles. I have run a 3930kv and 4370kv on both 2s 50c and 3s 40c packs with 15/54 gearing, and currently run a 5200kv on 2s 50c pack with 13/54 gearing.

    Finally Broke Something

Well my streak of not breaking anything on my brushless converted Ruckus has come to an end after a parking lot session running a 3s lipo pack with a 4370kv brushless motor and 16/54 32 pitch gears. My aluminum hex sheared the pin on one stub axle :p:D Replaced the pin and still going strong...

    ECX Metal Gear Set

As part of the troubleshooting and maintenance process, yes it is typical to disassemble and go into every part of the RC at some point.

    Top Speed Check

My Ruckus was running right around 40 mph with a 3930kv motor and moderate gearing for cool motor temps. I would take a guess that is where you are at. I was using an old phone with a cracked but usable screen until I recently got a Dynamite GPS unit that I found on Amazon Warehouse deals for...

How do you tell when the slipper clutch needs adjusted?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014GQMHZY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Those are the wheels tires I have on my Ruckus.

How do you tell when the slipper clutch needs adjusted?

@Jerry-Rigged described it perfectly. Your transmission gears and axles will thank you for having a properly set slipper for high traction conditions.

will this work to run ruckus in snow?

I have an upgraded waterproof, metal gear servo and splashproof brushless esc and run in snow no problem. The stock electronics in my originally brushed version were waterproof. As for the battery, I have run NiMH, soft pack lipos, and hard pack lipos in snow without a problem. Paddle tires...

    Ruckus is my first RC...

Yeah, it doesn't need a 3s. Plenty of power and speed on 2s

Sold / Found Have a Ruckus project, need 2.2 wheels/smaller tires for testing...

Just curious, but why would you think you needed smaller wheels/tires? I am running a 3930kv motor with 16/54 32 pitch gears on 2s 35c and 3s 40c packs with everything else stock. Temps are completely fine

"New" to RC... Educate me (Please)

In response to the ESC recall, the 40 amp ESC that was originally included was the one catching fires. They have been recalled and the new package with lipo includes a 60 amp ESC that does not suffer from that issue. I got my Ruckus back in November and it came with the lipo and 60 amp ESC.

    Ruckus is my first RC...

Glad you got it running well now. I also got a the brushed version with lipo, and put a brushless system in it. I went with the GoolRC ESC and 3930kv motor. I am running 32 pitch 16t metal pinion and 54t plastic spur gears. I have not broken any parts on mine, aside from stripping the 48p...

Video: Barrage first time in snow

Took my Barrage out for a run through the snow. Running smaller offroad buggy tires and the motor/pinion out of my Losi mini slider with a full-size battery pack.

Video: Ruckus first time in snow

Took my Ruckus out for some fun in the snow before it got too deep. The stock tires are not very good in the snow, especially for turning.

Very noisy after a hot motor cool down. Did I burn up a motor or a transmission?

Hard to pinpoint it from your description, but it sounds more like you have stripped the spur gear. I would start there and see what you find. I stripped out the stock spur in my Ruckus when I switched from the 15 turn brushed motor to a 3900kv brushless motor on 2S. Would not be surprised if...
