I have a 4WD Ruckus 1/18. I have been out of R/C's for about 20 years. I'm looking for upgrades. Something I can do myself. Would like a little faster and more battery life for more drive time. I am mechanically inclined. I grew up racing Go Karts

Thanks

Can any one point me to an ecs / brushless motor combo good for my Ruckus? And if I need to change gears, Would also like to run Lipo battery.

Thank You

Before you even think about going brushless you need to change out the diffs.

You will also need a transmitter and receiver.

This combo should work if you don't mind waiting on the slow boat from China, you will also need to buy some pinions. https://www.ebay.com/itm/GoolRC-S24...sh=item1ec9f78650:g:8VwAAOSw6ShZTNxB&LH_BIN=1

Or you could get this motor https://www.ebay.com/itm/SKYRC-MICR...sh=item56b4038077:g:~FMAAOSwBWJbYKQj&LH_BIN=1
and this esc https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-18-1-16-...sh=item1edf5d3a50:g:Q7QAAOSwwIta31mi&LH_BIN=1

I would also change out the stock shocks as they are rubbish and will just cause you issues down the road.

Replace all the bushings with rubber sealed bearings.

The 1/18 Ecx Ruckus requires way too much time, effort and money to make it a worthwhile truck even stock, let alone brushless. Why spend $150+ on a $99 rc? Save yourself some time and a headache and take the money you were going to use to buy the upgrade parts for the Ruckus, sell the Ruckus and buy one of these https://www.nitrorcx.com/25c103-14-valor-mt-blue-brushless.html

I don't know about ecs or motors, I always just buy a new one just like the one it came with. You may need to change gears, the LiPo batteries (I have one) are REALLY powerful and my gears were stripped pretty quickly. You won't need a new esc to tell you when the battery is low, just get this. https://www.horizonhobby.com/product/lipo-voltage-checker-warning-alarm/DYNF0002.html

What the heck why you dissin my truck?!?! I've had it for years and it's never let me down. Start small, then work from there as you get more experienced.

I dont think slick was dissing anything, I think he was just posting his own opinion and experiences after sinking a lot of money into one.
Your mileage may vary with your own car.

Not dissin anything. Just giving my feedback based on my personal experiences with this platform. Heck I even went out and bought a second one.

Jeez I'm 12 I don't have the money for that! I have replaced the motor twice and currently have a LiPo battery. The new motor paired with the LiPo caused my gears to strip because they're so powerful. I'm saving for metal gears.

That will be to do with the meshing. I run brushless and on 3s and it’s fine.
