Brushless Gearing Help

Hey Everyone, I had a 3800kv brushless motor on my amp with a 20T pinion. Well the motor fried on me and when I ordered a replacement they sent me a 3100kv motor, when I pointed out the error they refunded me and said keep it, so sweet, free motor! Well now when I run my truck with the same 20T pinion the motor gets scorching hot and the esc stays cool so I'm guessing it's undergeared, how big of a pinion do you think would have to go to bring the motor temp back down? I'm running 2s btw.

First you need to invest in a temp gun with your finger your just guessing. Keep your motor temps below 160F check temps throughout the run and gear up or down based on your readings. If your positive your undergeared go up two teeth on the pinion.

I've been running a 4000kv hobbywing max 10 combo on 3s. Stock spur(87t) and 21t pinion. Warm to the touch and battery runs out before she gets to hot. This combo does have a motor heat sensor which has never cut in even when running a 19t pinion.
