Hello, I post the very first adventure i have in RC. I hope it can help someone to avoid the mistakes I made
An to be honest, my mistakes or at least supposed ones.

---- Circuit -----

Upgrade done :
  • Tire
    • From stock to Louise ST pioneer
  • Servo
    • From stock to PowerHD R20
  • Lipo
    • Stock to Gens ace 5000mAh 50C
To Do :
  • ECX 9001 Metal gear set upgrade
Planned Upgrades
  • Still Waiting for a lot of fun things, lots of opportunity to do lots of bullshit and also to learn a lot

---- Amp -----
Nothing !
It's a beast, my 8yo son give it hard time but nothing on the car
But the wheel controller give up, i just fix it with it

Some details about the first mistakes on Servo :

I order a beautiful Savox SW-0231MG ... but it doesn't fit at all, too tall too large 41.8mm X 42.9mm X 20.2mm
without modification it's impossible to fix it with the stock fixation.
It's too early for me to dremel my circuit ! i'm not ready yet

I go to my local rc store and bought a spektrum S6070, it's a low profile. Same results, cable do not allow use stock fixation
So i go back to my local rc store and make an exchange for a PowerHD R20.
Oh ! i forget that we first check spektrum S6240, but it's a low profile with a cable that can be removed so impossible to use stock fixation.

So the R20 installed ! First test 20min ago. (Just to laugh, check the screw at left, i ruin it ! have to replace it !)
Turn right straight ! reverse works well

Note : I had to change the length of the attachment between the servo and the servo saver beacause of the weird noise it does when i turn. Seems that the servo force and was blocked !
@all : Is it a good idea ?

First break and first repair !
The left drive shaft broke after a .... doubful landing. According to my local rc store specialist, seams that i let brake after landing instead of accelerate a little and cause make force too much on the driveshaft.

So it's the driver ! have i have to improve

I wonder how the difference in weight between the original tires and the louise could have been one of the causes ?

@all : Do you put some glue on the screw when fixing the driveshaft ?

For memories, this springboard landing on the grass :

Next updates : shocks

I order ECX aluminium shocks. I change the oil for the rear to corally 200cps
It's a little bit difficult with this shocks to have a proper setup due to the lack of a hole for purge.

But it's done, test done and it's good !

IMG_1191.jpgIMG_1195.jpgIMG_1196.jpg

The new servo do a great job, after five packs this week. It's a pleasure in the forest.
Much more maneuverable and reactive, much more practical to avoid unwanted shocks.

But I think there is a latency on the radio remote control especially when my children are with me and they drive their cars too

I'm having a lot of fun with ECX cars, even if they are not premium cars.
It's very interesting to learn how all of this works.

And no, i'm not looking for a cheap setup.
I plan to test the circuit ont the two tracks available near m home (one at 15kms and the other one at 30kms)

And Last but not least : this weekend, I tidied up my basement to have a secure corner for loading and storing lipos. It stresses me out a bit.
@all : Have you made any special arrangements at home ?

N.B. : My son plunged the back of the car into a hole full of water, results: the engine is dead, it's why i decided to go brushless

Cardiliis, looks like your heading in the right direction, however i didn't see any HR steel CV's. Yes, the Amp will take a beating, but its a war horse when upgraded. The Amp below is 2nd generation and my first RC. Its the one i learned from as its an entry level truck. There is pretty much nothing you can't do too this truck, as you can see. It runs on a Gen Ace 7000 mAh 11.7. Volt battery, which you can see i had to raise the battery compartment to accommodate the battery due to the thickness. Has big ass tires, brushless motor, raised body, body screw down ( no clips), body protection nobs and has been clocked at 65 plus. I protect all my RC's (36) with body nobs which is really just rubber feet for chairs, appliances, ect. The blue truck is my Amp Crush.

Hello, yes i love your truck !
I'm not as good as you seems to be with aluminium but i'm wondring how to upgrade my bumpers !
I send a mail to t bone racing but they seem very busy ... no offense due to the situation in US.

I reinforced the body with braided tape and used foam to absorb shocks at the front and rear towers

I'm aware of that CV's problem, lot's of persons describe it. Unfortunatly, hotracing do not seem to be available any more so i ordered this one
I'm afraid it's really heavy.

Some pics of what i receive today ! it will be fun !
Very happy to receive the bellcrank steering saver ! iwant to say : not to soon !

IMG_1213.jpgIMG_1214.jpgIMG_1215.jpg

What a mess that old servo saver in the ecx circuit !
i almost kill it to dissamble it !

Check the photo ! i think they put a lot of loctite to fix it and it burn the plastic down !

IMG_1217.jpg

A little reference to a french video where the guy prepares a RTR car for the first run :
he give the idea to reinforce the body.
But yes .... it's in french ... :p
summary :
  1. Reinforced the body
  2. Check all screw
  3. Check hole in the tire and plug the holes in the wheel rims with superglue and chaterton
  4. Check stering and adjust trim to be fine
  5. the next part is soldering from dean-t to XT90 on battery
Yes hi t-shirt is unbelievable in 2020 :D

Hi all,

A little speedrun tonight ! 32kph for the circuit with stock brushed motor 15T !

I also test the new servo saver ! After some trim adjustment ! Waouh ! it's very impressive !
It seems that my shocks compress when I turn ! it can be a problem ??? or not ??? !!!!

Hello,

i recently received all spare parts i ordered
I install
- the leopard 10.5T 3250kv
- all hotracing aluminium parts i ordered
- fast eddy bearings
- metal spur gear 87t
- I test a HH 18t pinion (from 31kph to 34kph ) and the to 24t pinion hot racing (34kph to 38kph) : 38kph is enough speed for me
- new savox servo SV-1271SG (from PowerHD R20) : much better then the powerhd, smooth and more precise

I soldered t-plug on the ESC

Very happy and very interesting to do all that modifications.
the weight car is now 2,004kg against 1,519kg for the stock amp

For my son, i also modify the amp with the HR servo saver and the front bumper from TBR

Cardiliis, looking good. Are you going to upgrade the front suspension arms also? Some of the Hot Racing upgrades are getting hard to find, the rear steel CV's are one of them. I think you would be happier with a brushless motor, a cheap Gool RC combo should do you well for around $ 40, and with you two cell Gen Ace (great battery), it won't be rocket fast but fast enough to to experience the brushless world. Just remember, you or your son controls how fast the Amp goes. Keep up the good work, it looks GREAT!

Hi, thanks for your comment.
The skyrc CHEETAH sensored 10.5T is pretty good but not cheap
But it is hard to fix pinion on it, the « bar » is not as long as the stock 15T brushed motor.

unfortunately, i broke the front hinge pin and the front hinge plate. I m waiting for spare parts.

i just ordered new hotracing cv’s Sect288
The Chinese one i have ordered are too heavy, the full pack weight around 95g

You can flip the pinion gear around on the motor shaft so it fits better. You have to remove the motor to tighten the grub screw as it will be behind the motor plate now.

A little more information about hinge pin
After almost 20 packs, i hit the pavement at full speed
You can see the result.

I replace M3 screws to fix the front bumper with HPI ones i find in my local rc store
i have to do the same for the rear bumper
