Drag racer build

I just joined today finally..and browsing I seen this. I am currently building a amp 100+ mph partial drag. For regular running I run the normal body. But now I finally figured out how to change the post to ruckus 2wd style so I can change the body to a car style. Done alot of work to mine and made a bunch of people salty on the way. Have you got any further on you build or idea? I can tell you all I have down and show it also. So far it's ok drag race in 132ft. But top end. Fastest with older 3s set up was 112 mph. I have a alot hotter and faster set up now. But haven't gps it yet.

No I haven't gotten any further with this build. I have a Slash that I’m currently working on for a the drag build. But I’m still interested in converting my Amp MT into a drag. @Doctyler2020 Do you have any pics of your set up?

Here some older shots of it. It's alittle different since. Just figured out the body options. So will try fitting one soon. Currently I run just 3 different versions of the stock body. Running big bore 80mm rears 70mm fronts and have the height adjusted out. With batt and weights on front rig is about 3/4 inch off ground all way around. Metal trans gears. Locker spool. 2650kv 3660. Run 3s and 4s. But I don't race sanctioned. Just run with some fast friends. Traxxas wheelie bar for now...but I am going to build one similar to the associated dr10 out of aluminum Soon. My current tires are just some 118mm nitro express specials that I belted using gorilla tape. But I run my setup on a set of 2.8 speed demons when running with friends. Plus those will be about only size tire I'll be able to fit underneath once I go to real drag body. Hi torque 996 servo and servo eliminator on. Trying to stay away from bling parts.. because I have wreak many times over 60+ and it's cheaper to fix with normal parts. I also put wheel weights on front bumper accordingly to the surface traction I am getting. Have hot racing axles 28806m I think that's what model they are. There's only 3 you can get from them. These are the rebuild able mid model ones. The rear hub carriers, I think I will have to change those to aluminum. I have melted the last 3 sets of them after a few runs. So pretty sure that will help with that. Sorry these all I have right now. Will have to take newer ones or maybe do a build. I like those slash builds and now seen the dr10 that's coming. But I have love my amp since got it a few years ago and been back and forth of what making it. I am interested in also making a clodzilla/emaxx style amp also but want to finish this one first. I have 4 amps lol. 3 spares and this one.

Thanks for the pictures. Looks like a nice setup. My Amp MT was my first rig I got. Then I got a Arrma Senton 3s for a gift. And as I mentioned previously, I’m working on a Slash drag build.

Thanks. Yeah eventually I'll have it where I want. Good luck with yours too. You plan to run sanctioned? Or just for fun? This build is a fun one for me. But have 3 other dedicated drag cars. Building one on this platform way way different.

Your rig looks great. Yeah. You have to lower it alot to stay stable. That was hardest part I faced other than gear selection.

Right now it’s something to occupy my time, I have a new born so my free time is limited. But I do want to get into sanctioned racing. Good luck to you as well.

Understand that. Wait till your baby old enough to rc with you. My 4 kids run with me now. Building them gives them decent understanding of basic cars and electrical. Here's one of my dedicated drags. I want to have a matching set.

So I am somewhat new to this hobby still. I currently have a 1/10 Ruckus 2 WD and I have already put into consideration on what to modify on it so I can keep it going when my 5 mth old can start playing with me. I am keeping it mostly for bashing and off road drift/race with family. I am really liking everyone's drag build that they are posting best of luck to all of you on your race to be fast! I would love to see a ECX mounted up with a 1/8 scale motor to attempt to take on one of the 6S speed demons that are out there. My budget is just a little too little for that but, would be my dream ECX build if going drag style.

Sweet. Welcome to rc lol. I been in it on and off since early 90s lol. Just worry about making your rig strong. My 8 year old son can drive my 45mph amp with no issues. I am have 4 lol. He also can drive my 80-100 mph rigs with little supervision. But his favs are the amps and crawler we have. But he started driving it when he was 6. Hardest part he had was understand left is left and right is right orientation to the rig not yourself lol. That was when he was younger. But once he got past that was smooth sailing. He actually drives better around a track or just bashing than my 18 year old. Lol Build your ruckus like you would drive. And when he's old enough...just trim back the throttle. No need in having different set up. And as he gets better and more confident..increase the speed. These trucks are pretty tough once you get them set up. Let him learn to have confidence in himself. I don't cringe when I hand over my controllers to my kids with the faster and bigger rigs. They can handle the speed and skill.

If you see my pic. That's 1/8 motor and 3/4s set up. My newer setup is lower kv..1500 actually and I can run 6s if I really wanted too..but 4s is out of hand. There Isa few people I have met that do run 4/5s amps with open diffs for mild offroad. It's insane. Also issue with bigger batteries is fitment. I know I could fit it if I needed too. But problem I have currently is still lift and eating rear hubs. Once I get the metal hubs I'll take some new picks of the better set up.

If you want to go fast. Just set up for that. These trucks very versatile and allow you to do alot. I think I am asking too much because I want super speed. But now want to set it to drag. Those both two different worlds with similararities .Fast doesn't mean good at drag and drag isn't always fast. Lol

How you been. Sorry been so long. With all this quarantine and school crap with my kids...been rough. Hopefully you and your family safe and doing alright?! You work on your rig anymore? I got some more done. Check it out. New motor 1100kv. Getting ready to switch esc out and fit 4-6s, finally put the rpm servo saver eliminator on. Omg it's the bee's knees. Changed out my tires for grp s3 compounds. S2/s1 will fail over 80mph. My body post came finally. They for a ruckus but will work. This will allow me to mount drag/eliminator body. So far leaning towards the mustang foxbody. But what you liking?

Oh and finally did the rear aluminum hubs hot racing ones. Haven't had a hub failure since. Had the hot racing servo eliminator also. The rpm tracks better for on road. The hot racing one is nice off road. Hopefully that makes sense. So running rpm now. Also if you run 12mm to 17mm adapters like me...any works well. But I have learned locking the lock nut backwards..like how you see in the above pics...with the white grippy lines not against the wheel.. actually holds better. Haven't had one spin out or loose but since flipping around. Maybe dumb luck. But works for me. Lol

Would a drag racer be a good idea for a limited amount of money?
Honestly...it's not that bad. But expect limited run time until your close to finished or have enough money for the right parts. I don't have alot into my rig money wise. But alot of time working it. Dealing with life outside rc and stuff. I am an inpatient person. But you learn sometimes the best rigs are thought out and take time to build.

Also make sure it's drag you want. Drag has rules like legit drag is limited to 2s power. Fastest you can be in that chassis with that power. Unless you go outlaw. Just ideas. Figured out what you like and want. But you can also build fast street cars/truck or fast yard bashers.

Body just got here. Went with mustang fox body. It definitely dont fit exact. Will have to make fit better. But will work on it this week. Its made to fit a slash. But as you see the amp a little bit smaller.
