Ecx torment 2wd drive transmission

Hi guys looking for some help, idler gear keeps stripping not sure whats going on been through 2 gears already

Usually that happens when you land a jump on throttle.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Nah I'm only running on tarmac just put the metal gear upgrades for about a month. And running on 2s only I did change the motor up to a 5200kv can that be the cause, overpowered?

Have you looked at the other gears to see if they have worn funny?
I am running 3s with a brushless motor and I have not stripped any idler gears.

I just opened it up again, found that that 25t gear also stripped a tooth. Looks like the axial 10 idler is not going to do it.

Gotta set up the slipper for the high grip surface.

I just opened it up again, found that that 25t gear also stripped a tooth. Looks like the axial 10 idler is not going to do it.

Check the plastic case (the trans housing). Especially where the pins for the gears go and the bearing. Take the gears completely off and put just the pins in the housing and check for play. Check for any play in the bearings.

Under power, the gears will tend to want to spread apart from each other. Only the pins and the bearings prevent that. If there is any play, they will be allowed to spread and you lose contact surface area on the gear teeth, which causes them to break off the ends. Similar to when backlash or pinion depth is off when you set up a rear diff.

I've been running mine with a Tacon 4300kv brushless system and the metal gears on 3s for over 10 years now with out a problem. It's the oldest RC I have and just keeps on going. I have yet to break anything!! For as simple as theses rigs are, they are incredibly strong.

It's not so much that they are strong it's that the parts are made out of noodles so they just absorb everything lol.
