Motor Temp?

So I have seen some posts about monitoring the motor temp, especially if you run in the grass. Question is, for my brushless 2WD, should I be monitoring the motor temp or is that a brushed motor thing?

Invest in a temp gun if you can. Depending on where you play and your driving style, you could overheat any motor. This will also help in making decisions like changing the gearing or buying a higher capacity battery for longer run times.

It depends on the manufacturer but between 160-200F for brushless motors.
For brushed motors it is 160F.
For the ESC the max is above 170F.

These are just rough guidelines. Best to check with the manufacturer.

I checked in the Truck manual and it didn't have anything on temp so I did find a manual for the brushless motor and ESC on the Horizon website and it said to keep the motor below 160F but the ESC manual said nothing with regards to temp...just a bunch of stuff about getting it wet. The ordered an Infrared Thermometer today. Thanks for the help!

Most ESC have a thermal protection, meaning they shut off when they get dangerously hot. Not sure which ESC comes with the brushless ruckus though, and whether it has a protection circuit.
