What battery to get

Hi,

I have a 2wd torment with 15t brushed motor. The LiPo 1800 battery that came with the car only gives me 8min of run time. I know this is a very low mah battery but 8min is a bit short. I also have a 3000mah batt and gives me about 20min run time. Is this normal or could my ESC shut of the power prematurely? The reason I got a 3000mah is because the moror is brushed and I don't want to run the car for for too long at a time.

That is definitely strange to get 8 minutes on the stock NiMH. I used to have the same NiMH on my stock amp a while ago and ran for about a good 24 minutes... it ran perfectly. I don’t know what could be wrong with yours though

Seems about right depending on how and where you drive. I have a couple 5000mah batteries that only last 20 to 25 mins. I wouldn't recommend getting any more nihm batteries, switch to 2s Lipo. You'll need a new charger as well.

Thanks for the replies. As mentioned in my original post, I am using LiPo. That is why I thought it is a bit strange only getting 8-10 min run time.

Oh, got it mixed up with the other post. What's your lvc set to, and what's the voltage of your battery when it's depleted?

Not sure what Ivc stand for, but my ESC isn't programmable. I bought a voltage meter so will test with the next run. I have a Dynamite WP 60A FWD/REV Brushed ESC.

You can go with a 2S lipo, 4000 to 5000 mah.
You should get 40min with 4000, and so forth.
Your ESC could be set high for your lipo shut down per say, only way to now is a battery tester (for digital reading) or your charger if digital. You can't assume your battery is bad if you don't know what your battery is sitting at before the charge.

It's interesting to see that you have a brushed truck and came stock with the Lipo. That probably why it's a 1800.

It's the latest ECX Torment 2wd RTR package. I will do some battery testing with my next run. I know it is not correct to assume 1800 - 18min, 3000 - 30min and so on, but is that more or less what you get on average from different capacity LiPo batteries?

LVC: Low Voltage Cut-Off. And since your ESC is compatible with Lipo, it has a LVC. If you go under the Manuals and Support tab in the link below you will find the manual. The only programming for your ESC is accomplished by way of jumpers.

At best, that is a wild guess, but likely, no where near the actually result. The run time will vary by the ESC, drive (2wd, 4wd), motor and battery involved. As well as the driving style and terrain you are driving on.

Thanks for all the info and assistance. Ok so I have tested battery after charged - 8.4V (which is correct) and when the LVC kicks in it is at - 7.7V which is way too high. Using a 7.4V 1800mah LiPo battery. Now it makes sense that I only get 8min of run time.

Your LVS should be set around 3.1volts to 3.4 volts. If you you have a jumper ( which you do on that ESC) the LVS will be set automatically. If you run your LiPo when the ESC is set for NiMH on the truck your run time is going to be short. Also remember, mAh is really amps ( 5000mAh battery is really 5 amps) A=mA/1000.

I got mine this christmas and it didn't come with a battery at all...I had to buy the package deal at my local hobby shop. Turns out its a 7cell nimh battery full charge we get about 35 minutes
