Will my charger that came with my ECX AMP MT charge my new battery? It is just a simple plug in with cord for battery. It was included with the car in the box for the speedpack 1800 mAh 7.2, 6cell NiMh (also included). I purchased a Venom 5000 'mAh 8.4, 7cell NiMh battery. Can I use the simple charger with this new battery? They are both NiMh so? Or is this somehow a bad move?

The 6-cell wall charger that came with the Amp will not be able to fully charge the 7 cell battery. And even if it could, it would take FOREVER since it only charges at 0.2A (that'd be 25 hours+ for your battery).

I suggest you invest in a good charger, and make sure it is capable of charging your current 6 and 7 cell NiMH but also LiPo (at least 4s, but preferably 6s), you will want this in the future and chargers aren't that cheap so get a good one first time out.

thank you, that's what i thought

I may have already recommended Hitec chargers to you, but if not... I am now. I have two and they've been great. I had one fail that was technically out of warranty and sent it in to Hitec service and they repaired it anyway and sent it back- I was just out the shipping cost! If you want a "future-proof" charger that will charge the NiMh packs you have now and charge just about whatever you might care to charge in the future (LiPo, LiHV, LiFe, Lead-acid, etc) then I recommend the Hitec RDX1. It even has a USB port to charge your phone. It runs about US$60. The Hitec X1 Nano is much cheaper, but will also charge a variety of battery types. It has limited settings for charging batteries but will do the job. US$25.

You can certainly pay more, but you won't really get much more in functionality compared to the mid-range chargers like the RDX1.
