@Wacmartin the 1/18th ECX Torment just wasn't designed for the power of a brushless motor and replacing the diffs tends to be pretty common when used with a brushless motor.
If you're set on a brushless setup I'd probably go with a 2 pole vs a 4 pole brushless motor due to less torque which might help prolong the life of your diff a bit.

I have been playing with my Torment for a little while now.
Current mods:
Castle Mamba Micro X 5300 KV setup.
Shimmed front and rear diffs. 10k fluid in the rear, 20k in the front.
Truck has been amazing. I had it set up as a a Ruckus for a while and beat on it pretty hard. Only thing I ever broke was a rear body post. Other wise its held out. I am very happy with the truck.
