Help needed... Smoking ESC

Hey Guys my son is brand new to the rc world & today when connecting the battery to the ESC it started smoking & now smells permanently burnt. What could have caused this ? Also, at the time the TX & RX were both already turned on... Could this have caused the smoking ? Servo still works fine but we have no forward or reverse. Is the motor also stuffed ? Any help would be greatly appreciated

The fact that the ESC was already turned on shouldn't matter. Although that unit might have had a defect that made it matter!

In any event, the unit was defective and you should give Horizon Hobby a call or email-- they have fantastic customer support and will like send you a new ESC/Rx.
