I have play in the spur gear when I twist it and it transfers into the drive shafts. How can I fix it?

i’ve had my ECX amp RC car for five years now and I cashed it a while ago and I’m just starting to fix it, but I had this problem before I crashed it with the differential because when I spin the spur gear with my fingers it does half a turn and then starts moving and if I wanna make it go backwards, I have to do another half a turn to make it go backwards and that’s just with play in it and I have cogging problems and that is the problem I think I was wondering if anybody knows how to fix that play in it.

Blow it apart

Check the flats on the input shaft and the matching flats on the clutch plates (the black metal circles on both sides of the blue clutch frictions) make sure they haven’t been rounded out. Check the spur for runout. Check the internal trans gears for missing teeth especially the input. Check the bearings for play, check the differential for runout I’ve shifted the gear under enough power. Check the areas of the trans case itself that hold the bearings and the idler shafts for out of round either from big impact or heat/warp

So I used trial and error and I found out that it is the Diff so I opened it up and nothing seemed abnormal to me, but I just switched the gears around and I put it all back together and it seemed to have worked, but I can’t fully test it yet cause I’m waiting on a driveshaft. I will keep you guys updated.
