My son broke his transmitter and now the Hobby Lobby site states this specific transmitter is discontinued. What is the best route to go about getting a replacement or upgrading? Thanks in advance

I broke the trigger on mine and the best my local shop could do was a new transmitter, receiver, and separate speed controller, totaling more than a new car. I ended up repairing it with two-part epoxy, wrapped with sewing thread and more epoxy to reinforce it, like fiberglass. Good as new.

That's the sad part about these 2 in 1 units. It's cheap for the company to make them but it's not so cheap for us customers when something breaks.

You could buy a complete replacement truck with transmitter off Ebay for less than $100 but it would have all of the same weaknesses in the electronics as your existing set-up.

Or you could start upgrading. A 60amp brushed ESC is $15-$30 on Amazon. A good radio like the DumboRC X6 comes with a gyro receiver for $40. I recently got a Meus ME-8B for $35 and it has a digital display and comes with a rechargable battery so no AAs needed.

You might need to do some basic soldering for the connectors but you'd end up with a better radio system and ESC in the end.

A brushless combo is only $33 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Hobbypark-Brushless-Electric-Controller-Prerunner/dp/B08R1MJKNN/ref=sr_1_11?crid=R662865LG1O8&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.cptgqX312lIYq3WiHZLwFYvUTN32JNpgU1eIYZQJjvCZkVgSXBdO85NxWAN9oRCPuKB2jtJUCA-mMOjfnu2tOdxDd17dT9LACO1pfC2W_9KRbPyqZiWnGMZhicqc8hkx7l2h7et-1i0B8U8w32hUf_8Mk7GKylXqhyBrNcAEzOd1eVPGBbx9bj2-AikH-Jo34ah8Ab7ZjeJT3YD1ZukyMdXPUPzqbqm4U8rFqFE99zePBpykR_TCFTkvgfWnGlxBaLJgmkupJjcUltUCimFiJCmDkrMlUiPrjxzy3vsiCnA.fGUrBrIxpXS_gDna-LK0l7yyOkpUO9itEoHfkSRx8-g&dib_tag=se&keywords=1/18+brushless+combo&qid=1767544063&sprefix=1/18+brushless+combo,aps,170&sr=8-11

Thanks for all the replies! This was my sons first and only r/c we bought a few years back and he wants to use it again. Guessing a new transmitter/receiver combo is the best route to go. I'm looking for recommendations for a replacement that will not break the bank.

You also need an esc. For the radio I would get the DumboRC x6 and as far as an esc goes this will work just fine you will have to solder on the proper battery connector though https://ebay.us/m/KPJRvE

Another vote for dumbo rc x6. I have one radio for four different RCs. Been 60+ on grass and 120+ on pavement at > 1/2 mile range. Just enough adjustments to be useful, just simple enough to be kid-friendly. Durable and reliable. Buy one radio, many receivers. Get the ones with gyro, very helpful
