Recomendations wanted for amp M/T radio and related parts

OK. I have searched the forums for what I am looking for, but no luck.
Several of our small racing group have experienced Transmitter /servo failure. I know the stock ECX unit is 2 in 1, and must be replaced with something else. My question is, what is the cheapest combo we can get by with using stock batteries (5100's). we don't run brushless motors.
Does anyone sell a package to replace/upgrade?

@Georgia Bob you could pick yourself up an inexpensive Hobbywing ESC and then get a Tactic or FlySky 2.4Ghz radio.
