Stripping Transmission gear

My son has a Ruckus and we were part of the ESC recall and got a new one but the old ESC burned out the motor. We went to the LHS and got a Traxxs 12T motor for a replacement. Once we put in the new motor and tried to drive it, it stripped out the transmission gears. Is it ok to upgrade to the metal gears or should I be looking at something else. The motor is a brushed motor.
Thank you

Are you sure it's the transmission gears?

Did you check to see if your slipper sprocket is tight or the spur gear teeth are not wore/missing. Also is the motor/pinion gear spaced properly to the spur gear?

If it truly is the tranny gears, that is really surprising. You can put the plastic gears back in if you want, otherwise upgrading to metal gears is not a bad choice, they obviously will cost a little bit more.
