I agree. On your transmitter you can turn down the Th D/R = Dual Rate to slow it down. Perhaps try it now on your brushed motor.

Maybe that would be the answer, I'd like to be able to be fast when I want but also be able to have it slower for when I'm driving with my son, maybe I could also use the dual rate to toned down any silliness from a brushless setup...

The second one you posted is a more powerful motor. The can is longer and it's 3800KV. It should be faster and have more torque than the other motor. I'd expect this to be a serious performance upgrade, and your spur gear or transmission may not take kindly to it. If you want a programming card, you'll have to buy it separately and pray that it is compatible.

The weak point on these ESCs is the little fan. Mine is noisy and wobbly from the first time I turned it on. I don't expect it to last.

I still run my Ruckus on the stock spur gear with a Castle 3800kv with 18t pinion on 3s so it should hold up just fine to 2s.

Idk if the stock transmitter will work without the stock esc/rx unit. I remember the radio they included with the 1/18 Ruckus will only work with the stock exc/rx.

valve90210 you will also need a new transmitter/receiver as the stock receiver is built into the brushed esc.
 
Yeah I'd thought about that, it's part of why I'm thinking of going the cheap goolrc route, can afford a half decent radio gear and the motor combo that way...
 
The GT2 does not have Dual Rate or end point but it is a great basic radio! Get the Flysky FS-GT3 if you want D/R or End Point to slow your car down when needed. I have both.
 
Anyone ever try the Austar AX5? It's been on my radar for a while but the stock electronics in amp #2 just don't want to die it seems. Motor was 180F yesterday...

It might be OK. I've had perfect luck with dozens of Flysky GT2 & 3 for years and with kids banging them around that I'm sticking with them. Also the Austar AX5 doesn't seem to have Th D/R or endpoint which I find the most useful feature this side of Mars. FS-GT3 has this.
 
At least some versions of the AX5 seem to have a 3-position switch for throttle endpoint, low-med-high, but recent sellers don't have a picture of this switch. It's still there though:

I own a FS-GT3C and I love it, but it's $20 more and most of the features I don't use. Just the rechargeable LiPo is a real bonus.
 
That's excellent that it has that! FlySky ads and their website are not mentioning the D/R either--Do these guys want to sell radios or not?!?
