Using stock 13005 transmitter with 13003 receiver

Has anyone verified that this actually works? I tried a 2S lipo in the completely stock Amp (with a low voltage indicator) and burned up the reverse in the esc literally within 3 minutes.

I'm hoping to be able to get the 13003 receiver and a new brushed esc that is Lipo ready for around $35, rather than spending $100 for the brushless setup (since this is driven a lot by my kids).

I just want the car to have a little more zip, but not necessarily brushless zip.

Anyone with experience doing this?

Thanks!

Have you spoken with Horizon yet? They will likely send you a new receiver/ ESC free.

Something had to have been off though. Many, many people use 2s on the stock Amp electronics (including myself) with no issue.

Thanks for the reply- I have tried to call them and email them, but I don't have an hour to wait for someone to take my call. I was on hold for 30 minutes yesterday. And the call back option doesn't work for me because I am with patients during the day.

That's unfortunate. I've never had an issue with hold times, though I have always called after work. Past 5pm.

Shoot them an email man, they offered to replace mine and I was on a different continent :)

I think whoever they subcontracted this ESC+RX unit to had some QC issues. You either have a good one or you don't... Mine burnt up similar to yours. Lost reverse first, then lost all drive. And it smelled like dead electronics.

I put the 13003 rx in my son's amp. It works great with the stock radio. I had to find the instructions for it online to pair it. It is originally used in a boat.

I use the Hobbywing 1060 brushed esc. I believe it was around $20. I use the FlySky fs-gt2b with it, and it was about $25. That esc is capable of 3s lipo.

Thanks for confirming that! Inow the meantime, I just bought a new unused spectrum system for $30. Now I have an extra.

I have been through 3 stock ESC/receivers so I bought a ECX13003 receiver and Dynamite 60A ESC, I cant get the stock ECX13005 transmitter to bind with ECX13003 receiver? There are 2 buttons on receiver, which is bind? and how do you do it? There are no manuals available for this receiver online? I want to like this truck but I am starting to think I should dump it and buy a different brand.

Multiple calls today with horizon hobby and still cant get ECX13003 receiver to bind with ECX13005 transmitter, there are no instructions anywhere to be found on this transmitter or receiver. My guess is its not an ECX or Horizon product just branded as theirs?

I have 3 of the 13003 receivers. They will bind. I can't remember which button I used though. The last time I couldn't get one to bind was due to a faulty esc. I'm pretty sure you start with the remote off. Push the upper bind button on the receiver and turn the esc on while holding the bind button. It should flash rapidly. Then switch on the remote. Once it binds the light will go solid. Turn everything off and then back on and you should be all set. It can be very frustrating.

Thanks I will try that, I kept asking tech support which button was the bind button as there are two, he kept telling me there was only one. Funny, I am looking at two! Are you using stock ECX13005 transmitter? Tech support said any V3 transmitter will work but could not tell me if stock ECX13005 was a V3?

Yes, same transmitter. I think it's the top button. It will blink rapidly once the bind function is active. So if it doesn't blink, try the other one.

Make sure the esc is plugged in to channel 2 and servo is in channel 1. The black wire should be on the negative side marked at the top of the receiver.

Ok still wouldn't bind, another call to tech support and they said the stock ECX13005 transmitter will not bind with the ECX13003 receiver the only option is the ECX13002 transmitter which is on back order. After listening to my experience they asked me to send pictures and receipts for my 3 stock ESC's and they would send me out a new STX2 combo no charge! Now that's customer service! I will update how it works out when parts arrive.

IMG_3493.JPG I'm glad they're taking care of you, but I have 2 of those transmitters bound to the 13003 receiver. The transmitter is the 13005.

This video on one of Horizon's YouTube channels shows how to bind the stock AMP transmitter to the ECX13003 receiver. Binding Instructions begin at 10 minutes 20 seconds
