My 6yo girl earned her Amp MT kit yesterday. I let her paint the body after homework and today after school we put it together...er, I put it together. She did good for about 3 parts bags and then couldn't take it any more. After a long day of 2nd grade and following directions all day she wanted to play. I finished it and I found out she wouldn't have been up to the task. I'm not sure if my 12yo will be able to finish it.
My problem areas were the m3 machine threaded bolts. The collared bolts for the knuckles and a few others here and there. They did not want to start at all. I ended up stripped out the allen hex on one for the front that holds the pins in for the A arms. When I help my oldest, I'll go ahead and tap all those out to an m3 before attempting them.
I put a 45 turn RC4WD crawler motor in there and it's about right for her...for now. I have the ECX motor ready to go in when the time is right. I'll be staging her up on pinion size as time goes on and her skill level improves.
I do like the wheels/tires. If they had some foams in them I'd consider running them on some of my other RCs. I'll be looking at a different front bumper also. Something with better protection.
All and all. After using Axial's gear like Legos over the last couple of years and more recently a TA SC10, this RC isn't that bad. It's definitely not on par with a $300+ rig, but for $130 I'm impressesed.
Fresh built and no stickers yet.
