I put In a metal spur gear a few days ago and the buggy feels faster is that normal?
Normal? If it is the same size (tooth count) then no.
If it is/was the same size (tooth count) then maybe you tightened the slipper more when you put the new spur on, this could make it seem spunkier.....if that makes sense.

Three possible causes:

1. you bought a different tooth count than the one you had on it, which changes the gear ratio and changes its acceleration or its top speed
2. there was a problem with the equipment that you unknowingly corrected during the replacement (bent spur, missing teeth, terrible mesh, poorly adjusted clutch, some cause of drag, etc).
3. your brain is making you think it's faster because new and $$$
