Carbon fiber chassis

I am attempting to make a carbon fiber chassis for my Boost. This is 8 layers of carbon fiber hopefully it weighs less and is stiffer than the stock chassis.

Here is a time line of what I have done so far.

I rough cut out the chassis shape last night.

As of right now the chassis with the aluminum spacers I will have to add to make up the difference in the thicker parts of the stock chassis, it weighs about 30 grams less than the stock chassis. It also fees much stiffer than the stock chassis.

I will keep you guys updated.

That's some hi tech stuff right there. Could you tell us more about the materials and process you used to produce the chassis. I don't know much about carbon fiber, thought it had to be cured in an autoclave. Looks good!

I think using an autoclave or some type of vacuum system would give you more consistent results, but hand laying seem to work out for what I am doing. An autoclave would probably insure you don't have any air bubbles between the fiber sheets that could cause week spots.

Not nearly as cool or high tech but I just made this chassis brace for my amp buggy and it stiffened the chassis significantly.
