looking to change stock tires on my 2wd ruckus
stock have 5" diameter

if i switched to a tire with 4.7" will i need to adjust size of pinion?
currently stock 24T (brushless ruckus)

and/or do i just get spur gear with less teeth to make up for lost speed?

I would say go up 1-2 teeth, Also the pinion will be determined by the width of the tires and how heavy they are i have a ruckus that i put duratrax sixpack sc c2 tires on and went up from 15toth to a 17tooth. I run 3s if your wondering why mine are small.

i was also looking at proline trenchers
but would have to gear Down for those right?
pretty sure they are wider tire, and maybe heavier too

Duratrax six pack tires are going to shread right away on road. Proline treanchers are great but yes you will have to grear down.

according to duratrax they have some in 12mm hex
not sure how they would hold up on pavement and off road

so trenchers are a good compromise for off road while still being somewhat decent on pavement?

Just stay below 50mph. They wont last as long on pavement no tires will. They are a little expensive but they will last a long time if maintained well enough. I also dont drive in water that much but water gets in all tires, some are affected more than others.

I run Trenchers since Christmas in my 2WD Ruckus. Awesome traction and looks. A bit smaller in diameter than stock tires, and I'm not sure if they're also lighter. I haven't changed my gearing yet, in my opinion is not necessary, though I have a Robinson Racing pinion ready if needed.

Yea I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t many 1/10 scale tires the same diameter of the stock ruckus tires. I dont know why but the torment has a weird issue like that too. It’s stock tires are a lot smaller than actual SC tires. The ruckus is opposite it’s tires are much bigger than after market. It does seem like ECX makes the tires kind of cheap and super hard compound I don’t know why but reality? possibly.

I use duratrax six pack tires on my circuit. Indeed don't drive to much on roads. If I go on a street or somthing I put on my stock tires (they are bald but it's fun to drift:D). On offroad the duratrax tires are great. Used them on sand, grass and mud.

The ruckus and torment share the same pinion and spur. So either one is overgeared or the other one is underheated... I wouldn't bother changing the pinion unless you really miss the top speed.
I run duratrax tires on my ruckus and it is still fast enough to not be able to turn at full speed without rolling over.
They have so much more grip than the stock tires too.
